On August 25th at Ben Lomond High School, Copper Hills got rid of the drought that has plagued our football team for the past two seasons. The game was away and it was a victory that truly could be felt by our whole school. The team has now given us a reason to look up in anticipation for future games.

The team is led by Coach Dodds this year. He was a linebacker at the University of Utah, and was a part of the undefeated team of 2004. According to Justin Rasmussen, a member of our football team, Coach Dodds was a big part of why they won that game. “He works us like no other. He pushes us to our limits every day. Coach Dodds gave us the tools we needed.” But, that’s not the only reason Copper Hills took this game. Justin mentioned that this year the players are much more conditioned and disciplined than they have been in the past.

Copper Hills certainly has a stigma for not winning games, however, we took the game anyway. Gavin Hawes, our Spirit and Pride officer said, “The energy at that game was high and the team was thirsty for something to happen,” which was why that game was different from the others. During and after the game the students went insane and it was “pure CHAOS.” It may appear to most that this one game shouldn’t actually mean that much. However the win is just a berry. But in the one, we’ve gained hope for a full bush.

Gavin and Justin both think that we have hope for more wins in the future. Although, our Spirit and Pride SBO mentioned that, “While the team has what it takes, the students make a bigger difference than most people think, our job is to be the 12th man on the field!” He encourages all students to come out and support our grizzlies as we hope to take more games this season. Let’s make sure to support our boys on the field as we rain on this season with more victories.
