Girls’ Soccer vs. West Jordan

Jill Stevens, Staff Writer

Looks like the Grizzlies girls’ soccer team have made it into the playoffs. Yesterday they were up against the West Jordan Jaguars, and the Grizzlies did fantastic. They won the game 1 – 0. Both teams made a lot of close shots. There were gusts of wind here and there but the girls played it off incredibly by using the wind to their advantage by changing the way they kicked. The clouds were ominous, but, luckily, the rain held off until after the game when the sky began sprinkling some rain.

In the second half of the game, Megan Barnes scored the winning goal. Unfortunately,  near the end of the game, one of the other players on our team injured her knee when she collided with an opponent. She had to sit out for the rest of the game but the coach said that she should be healed in time to play in the playoffs next Thursday.

The assistant coach, Shelby Warren (who has been teaching for 4 years), said, “This season has gone very well so far! We’ve lost seventeen seniors though…” Then head coach, Ryan Rumfallo, joined in with, “Every few years we get a ‘rebuilding year’ which is when we lose a lot of people but we get lots of new people to join. That year is happening right now.” The team  overall works very well together. “We’re like family,” says Captain Emily Anderson and Captain Brittin Kearl. Anderson also stated, “We have definitely improved since the season started…” The team is so supportive of each other so now let’s be supportive of them. Go watch them in the playoffs on October 11.
